The Disease
History
Stages
Treatment
The people of Sanitas never had much to fear once The Great War was over. All the races, with the exception of the Aer, lived a great few centuries without anything to worry about. It wasn't until recently―about a hundred years or so--that some started to notice a friend or family member becoming sick. At first there wasn't anything to be concerned over but over the course of a few days, the ailed person would get gravely worse. Soon what looked to be a demon of sorts stood in the same place of what was once civilized person.
The disease didn't make itself known throughout the territories until a summit held by the Valere's ruler at the time, King Cedric after numerous reports from both the Council of Ten what three tribe leaders of the Kelva. Something had to be done with the demons that were spawning from nowhere. It was then agreed that since no race was immune to it, they would all pull their resources together to come up with a swift solution before more of their people were put at risk.
Independent volunteers from the Isle of Innis offered their facilities for research what the leaders were quick to comply. Before long, a large medical building was built on the large island what anyone who was suspected of being contaminated was brought there for testing.
Telos―the end―seemed like fitting name for the disease. Learning from one infected volunteered shed a horrifying light on what they were dealing with but they were able to get some valuable information. Throughout numerous experiments they were able to afflicted with the disease meet a common end ― they all turn into some form of a monster but none like they'd ever seen before, the Deimos. Unfortunately the Isle of Innis was only able to gather so much data before the number of Deimos they had confined overrun the hospital and devoured the city.
Since the destruction of the Isle, the research of the Telos was moved to Chione, another independent nation what is still conducted by specialists to this day.

Stages
There are five known stages of the Telos disease though they appear in no specific order. According to the results of the Isle of Innis researchers, each documented infected person lost one sense over the estimated course of about a week or so, slowly losing their humanity. By the time they reach the fifth stage (the fifth sense finally lost), they would undergo a transformation. However just like the individual stages, the time of which each subject transformed varies. Their appearance & the level of intelligence - or lack thereof - differentiates between each person.
Losing a sense would cause unbelievable amounts of pain to the subject before it is finally lost, often times driving one mad with rage.

Treatment
As of now there is no cure for the Telos disease. In fact, some Aer speculate that the effort to gather information and contain the situation is just a front.
Researching the disease, its effects and the aftermath seems to raise more questions than answers. There are no signs of where the illness comes from, how it reaches or person or who it will reach next. Since the destruction of the Isle of Innis, the team of researchers decided to split the work onto two separate islands: Chione, where all salvaged data from the Isle is kept and experiments continue, and Hestia, where all subjects who have grown to close to the end are moved to, as well as anyone else who has contracted the disease. Out of the two, Hestia is the more heavily defended of the two. Should a situation like the Isle happen again, the researchers are prepared to deal with the worst case scenario.
As for the people who are still in the earlier stages of the disease, scientists and doctors try their hardest to treat them while the others in Chione struggle to come up with some sort of cure. If a patient is feared to become too much of an issue, they will be put down.
